Thanks for the insights. Personally, I find speed disappears quicker than endurance. This could be explained by the fact that I have been running for a long time so have "accumulated" endurance and am getting older so PBs are already a thing of the past. The positive thing that I have realised over the years is that getting my fitness back does not take as long as it took to build in the first place.

Great read! And sometimes pauses are absolutely neccessary to gain endurance and strength again. Always depends on where you are standing and where you want to go, but losing "some" fitness should be no problem if you are consistent (e.g.) runner.

Aw man... I've been traveling and then sick for a month so I haven't been running. The research on losing my fitness scares me but at least I don't have any upcoming races. BUT this newsletter and is good reminder to give the body grace when recovering from illness and getting back at it (telling myself this!!) Thanks for sharing.

Losing a little fitness shouldn’t scare you, especially if there’s a good reason for it (you’re traveling, which is fun! You’re sick, which means your body needs its resources to get healthy!). It *will* come back sooner if you don’t push it. I’m glad this was a helpful read for you!

That marathon cheats article was nuts. Also, I'm now really excited for the Brittany Dawn episode of that podcast. Keep the content recommendations coming!
